If you’re looking at normal presentations and they are full of slides with bullet points, charts, animations, and those cute little stick figure guys please…delete it now! There are this stupid rules like max 7 bullet points with max 7 words that 49 words one one slide. Thats simple to much. My 10 rules of creating great power point slides:
- Simplicity!
- Simplicity!
- Simplicity!
- Max 3-6 Words per slide (Only one font per presentation / Font size 40+)
- User background images to create emotion (Don’t resize images - that looks ugly)
- Don’t use standard templates
- Everything which is on the slide has to be explaned
- No full sentences
- don’t overdo with effects, colors, etc.
- and again simplicity!
Exception are possible if you want to achive a specific effect (like humor, demonstration, etc.). I hope you got it simple is beautiful or simplicity rules!
Some References for creating great presentations:
- Garr Reynolds’ book Presentation Zen. You’ll be surprised at how much this little book will help to make your presentations absolutely killer.
- Read Seth Godin’s “Really Bad PowerPoint“. Your PowerPoint was bad and Seth tells you why. Now, aren’t you glad you deleted it before?
- Visit the Ted Talks website. Watch people who are truly inspirational deliver some of THE best presentations you’ll ever see. Aside from being inspired, take a hard look at why these people communicate so well, both verbally and visually. Learn from them, you can be just as exceptional at communicating.
