New Portal of the BEV

The Austrian Federal Office for Metrology and Surveying (BEV) has recently updated their web appearance. Now a new portal is available providing information about the Austrian Federal Office for Metrology and Surveying. One of the biggest enhancement is the new online purchasing platform for geodata.

Following shops are available:

  • BEV Shop Light
  • BEV Shop
  • BEV Shop PLUS
  • BEV Web GIS

Some services do not work until now and are announced for the future. The BEV tries to integrate recommondations of the INSPIRE initiative, but I’m not sure how felicitous this new portal is according this issue.

Some drawbacks of the portal I identified on the first glimpse are:

  • Fonts too small
  • few free geodata
  • Austrian Map online implementation using antiquated technology
  • No foreign langage support (at least english recommended)
