The German company Geofabrik is specialized to neogeography and open geospatial data. Now they provide the download of OpenStreetMaps as daily updated shapefiles.
The data on their server are regional hierarchical structured. All shapefiles are based on OpenStreetmap-raw data. This XML-based file format dist described in the OpenStreetMap-Wiki at OSM Protocol Version 0.5.

But not all layers of the available OSM data is converted special layers can be requested as additional service.

The Wall Street Journal povides a service where you can compare the air polution near Beijing. With a time sider you can go back to 2005. The data is baed on the Beijing government.

Yesterday the first news came up that Graz and Vienna are now available in 3D. Virtual Earth was enhanced with the datasets of these cities.

The 3D information is derived from areal photographs recored in different angles.

The Austrian Federal Enviromental Agency (Umweltbundesamt) maps air quality data from gauging stations distributed over the area of Austria. The recorded data from the sensors can be actualised by the user from the map interface. Used technologies are Google Maps and geonames.org for georeferencing.

Values for ozone, particulate matter, nitrogen dioxide, carbon monodixe and some other are recored and mapped. I’m not sure if the application works for any browser, becuase I had some troubles with Safari.
